The Schwag is band that carries on the vibe and music of the Grateful Dead. They perform a different show every night, based on the catalog of 200 songs the Dead have performed. The Schwag is the most improvisational and spontaneous of all Dead tribute bands, and has headlined more than 1500 concerts since 1992. They deliver high-intensity jams with high-quality sound that sends listeners into a dancing frenzy of eargasmic ecstasy. The Schwag is a regional touring band that performs over 160 shows a year in 18 states, and has shared the stage with Little Feat, Leftover Salmon, JGB, String Cheese Incident, Merl Saunders, and the David Grisman Quintet. Special musical guests have included Johnnie Johnson, Merl Saunders, Michael and Liz from Rusted Root, Butch Trucks from the Allman Brothers Band, Mike Gordon from Phish, Fred Tackett from Little Feat, and Devon Allman ( 23 entire shows ). The Schwagstock festivals are campout/concert events that have taken place several times a year since 1997. 3000 to 5000 people attend these events, most of which are held at large campgrounds in Missouri at Lake of the Ozarks, and along the Meramec River. The friendly campers at Schwagstock enjoy a variety of food and craft vendors, as well as interesting opening acts, side stage entertainment, drum circles & clinics, with the Schwag headlining a different show each night. The Schwag maintains a fan mailing list with over 6,000 members. The Schwag began in St. Louis, MO in the fall of 1992. When the Grateful Dead stopped touring in 1995, they became committed to keeping the vibe alive, carrying the torch of Improvisational Electric Music into the new millennium.
