GUMBOHEAD is a collective of rhythmic rapscallions and tuneful tricknologists who find great joy bringing music born in and influenced by New Orleans (a.k.a. the Crescent City, The City That Care Forgot and The Big Easy) up the mighty Mississippi to that other river town -- St. Louis, Missouri.
To hear the band perform is to experience the full spectrum of Louisiana dance music, including zydeco, blues, jazz, funk, rock and traditional "second line" grooves -- and tunes from such amazing artists as Buckwheat Zydeco, Dr. John, the Neville Brothers, the Radiators, the Iguanas, Chubby Carrier, Cowboy Mouth, Galactic, the Subdudes and Professor Longhair. We have had the privilege of opening for Buckwheat, Chubby and Terrance Simien (damn near the Holy Trinity of zydeco artists, if you ask us) as well as the legendary Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
Every Gumbohead gig is a full-blown, bead-tossing Mardi Gras throwdown. And all our songs are 100% bayou-degradable, truly groovealicious and unconditionally guaranteed to leave you with a wicked case of the FUNKY BUTT.
